Maple Maga

Why is Pierre Poilievre often called Maple Maga or Trump Lite? A lot of what he says mirrors, if not directly parrots, shit Trump says and does.

Now PP and the CPC uses the "Canada First" slogan. Before that he went on about how broken Canada is. Sound familiar? America First?

When Donald started his BS with Canada, calling us the 51st State and disparaging our PM by calling him Governor, PP was fairly quiet. Mind you he did use Trumpian slogans at his rallies. While Trump was using the fake excuse of drugs coming into the US from Canada the slogan in front of the podium every time PP spoke was "Stop The Drugs".  While everyone else in Canada (except the twit in Alberta) was preparing to deal with Trump, PP was still focusing on other things, using Trumpian slogans.

He uses "woke" as an all-purpose pejorative and says he is on the side of "common sense."

He is not a fan of the media. The CBC is a huge target of his and he wants to defund them. Even when dealing with the press at rallies and events he restricts them. Only approved media are allowed. Only 4 reporters can ask questions, and they only have 1 they can ask with no follow up. The questions are submitted beforehand.

He embraced the so called "Freedom Convoy" morons who occupied Ottawa. PP showed up with coffee and donuts for them and marched in solidarity with them.

He uses "woke" as an all-purpose pejorative and says he is on the side of "common sense."

He has vowed to defeat the "gatekeepers" who are apparently standing in the way of Canadians prospering.

Instead of making laws that would pass Constitutional muster he has vowed to invoke the notwithstanding clause to override judicial rulings against his attempts to impose harsher sentences on those convicted of committing crimes. Who needs Due Process and oversight?

He previously promised to withhold federal funding from universities that do not adequately uphold freedom of speech. HIS definition of freedom of speech.

PP talked about his big beautiful income tax cuts during a rally the other day. Trump has his big beautiful bill he wants to pass to make his tax cuts permanent. Tax cuts for the wealthy.

I don't know about you but I do see more than a little Trump and MAGA in Poilievre.

A possible future path.

I have heard and read a lot about forming a proper Canada Australia New Zealand United Kingdom (CANZUK) alliance. It is much more probable than Canada joining the EU, which some people have espoused. The basis for it is already there as well. We are all Commonwealth Members with similar beliefs. An economic and military alliance between the countries would be good. It would be a good step towards separating our economy and military from the US.

Trump has made the USA untrustworthy as an ally. It is time to accept that and move on. Find new trading partners and work towards a future without depending on the USA . Even if/when things "go back to normal" we can't afford to tie ourselves so closely to the US. Their are enough Americans stupid enough that this could happen again and again.

What the .... Donald?!?!?

While I expected the new Trump administration to be a shit show I didn't expect it to show it's ass this quick. In a month and a bit he has managed to betray their neighbour and long time ally, Canada. That doesn't even get into what he has said and done to piss off Mexico, Europe, and Panama.

I could rehash what has been said and done but it has been reported and done in depth already. I am looking at the Canadian aspect of it.

I am proud to say Canada is fighting back. The people of Canada have never been as united as they are now. Even Quebecois have said they are proud Canadians. We are prepared to take some pain. We are behind our Government. Hell, I am even impressed with Trudeau. He still has to go but damn Crisis Trudeau reminds me of his father. Elbows Up!

It is time to start untangling ourselves from the US economically and militarily. With a fascist like Donald in power we can't trust the US government.

Donald has violated the Free Trade agreement that HE made with Canada and Mexico. So let's make it official and say that his violations have just nullified it. His tariffs violate the WTO rules as well. Now he is spouting off about wanting to redo the borders. The US cannot be trusted while Donald is in charge, and Vance wouldn't be any better.

Fuck Donald and Fuck the Americans who voted for him and pay lip service to him. 77 Million plus of  Americans voted for this piece of shit. 49.8% of all those who voted. When I hear people say "I didn't vote for him!" as a means of distancing themselves from the insanity he has created I have 1 question. Did you vote? The 2024  Presidential Election had a lower turn out than the 2020 election. If all those who said they didn't vote for Donald, don't blame me, actually voted, Kamala would have won. So, someone other than Donald is a liar and deserves to be called on it. But I digress.

Then you have the Republican Party itself. They have sold their souls to a fascist piece of shit and his extremists. While Donald and Elon trample on the US Constitution the Republican Party is either fondling Donald's dick to keep him happy or have their head in the ground and their ass in the air and ignoring what is going on around them.

I am proud of how Canada and Canadians are responding.

What the .... Saudi Spat?!?!?!?

Saudi Arabia has decided to start a fight with Canada over a tweet they don't like.

Saudi Arabia lost their shit over this and started acting out.

A friend of mine made a post asking why we buy oil from Saudi Arabia. I replied to it, something I don't usually do on FB. To paraphrase, I said fuck Saudi Arabia. From what I have read we only get 25% of our oil from them maybe it is time to get that oil from someone else or from within our own country. To hear a pompous ass (the Saudi official who started this) drone on about how great they are to women because they gave them the right to drive a car last year, while women can still be stoned to death for walking around with a non-related male pisses me off. Fuck them.

A misogynistic shit wit I work with was offended by my post. He basically dismissed it by suggesting I smoke weed and don't know the reality of what is going on in Saudi Arabia. He actually claimed there is no proof women get stoned there or that anyone gets crucified. (To be fair, in any instance of crucifixion I have seen they killed the person before crucifying them,  it is a means of leaving them on display.)

It irks me when people try and ignore reality. There are a lot of reports from reliable media outlets about what goes on in Saudi Arabia. The shit wit I work with has his own bias which causes him to blind himself to reality. He rambled on in another post claiming he hates what the Saudis and Trump are doing in the Middle East but can't agree with false claims of stoning and crucifixion without proof. Well, there is proof if you don't have your head rammed up your ass.

This brings me back to my original line of thought .... fuck Saudi Arabia. They are in the process of making sure they spend no money in Canada while they still want our money. Fuck them. We should be finding other places to spend our money. We need to actually start using the oil found in Canada in Canada.

The whole episode also brings up a great question. Why is Saudi Arabia on the UN Human Rights Council let alone heading the council?

What the ... Laurierism?!?!?!?

A friend shared something on Facebook from some mook named Rob East. Actually it was something he shared, of something a friend shared, that a friend shared, that Rob East made available. Oh what a tangled web we weave ... but I am getting ahead of myself.

Mr. East posted a photo of a quote to Wilfred Laurier in 2015. All it took was reading the first sentence, Mr. East's opening and only comment, for me to call bullshit on it. He wrote;

"I AM CANADIAN ... maybe we should remember the words of our founding fathers."

Canadian? Really? Ok, we do have our share of fuckwits in Canada and a lot of morons. He could be Canadian and a prime example of either of those. Or maybe he is an American.

Founding fathers?!?!?!? Really?!?!? THAT sounds like something an American would say. Not a Canadian. In Canada we have The Fathers of Confederation. NOT founding fathers. On top of that, Laurier was NOT one of them.

He then went on to post the statement attributed to Laurier. A statement which had a huge glaring error in it. Can you pick out the error?

Did you see it? In the last half of the statement? Yeah, this one.

"We have room for only one flag, the Canadian flag."

BAARRRRRRRRRRP! Canadian Flag? In 1907? The Canadian flag was NOT adopted until 1965! Until then we flew the Union Jack aka The United Kingdom Union Flag.

The whole statement sounds more like something an American would say. Thanks to the miracle of the internet and a handy site called Snopes it was easy to find out who this statement belongs to. In it's original form and not what Mr. East bastardized it into (or someone else did and Mr. East didn't bother attributing it to them) it was made by ... Theodore Roosevelt. A search on Snopes using Laurier showed that.

A google search then showed that this piece of BS, the quote not Mr. East, has been around the internet since at least 2012. Maybe longer. Which means Mr. East was just passing on the BS without showing where he found it.

Good try Mr. East but I smelled the bullshit from the start.

Then you have the twat waffles in the comment section.

The fucking moron who said she AGREES "n"  does so without prejudice. Which is codespeak for I am a fucking racist.  Nice try asshole.

Or The last commenter who really doesn't know anything about Laurier. She was right he is a Canadian through and through but if she believes this piece of tripe was really him she has NO idea what a Canadian is, let alone who Laurier was.

Morons do seem to attract morons.

What the ... stand in?!?!?!?

Just when you think Harper and his people can't be any more moronic they manage to surprise.

On Tuesday, Irving Shipyard in Halifax started production of the 1st Offshore Arctic Patrol Ship the Harry DeWolf. The Harperites decided he should share in the news so made up a video of him promoting the program and his party. They shot one of him talking with a bridge in the background. What could the problem be?

The background is the problem. The idiots try to make you think it is Halifax when it is really Johnstown, Ontario. There is a bridge there that looks similar to the Halifax bridges, depending on the view used.

Hell, the guy who likes to wrap himself in the Canadian flag isn't even using a Canadian bridge in the background! It is actually the Ogdensburg–Prescott International Bridge, a U.S.-owned suspension bridge over the St. Lawrence river that connects Ogdensburg, New York to Johnstown, Ontario. Way to go Harper!

What a bunch of fucktards. Sure, it isn't always possible to do your video from where you want but why try faking it?!?!?!? Just do it in front of Parliament. In your office. At the PM's residence.

Why be honest when you can try and fake it. After all it was Harper who said;

“You’re a journalist, and we all know journalists make bad politicians. Politicians know how to stick to a message. That’s how they are successful. Journalists think they always have to tell the truth.”

Why bother with the truth when you have a message to get out.

Vote anything but Conservative! Lets kick this lying ass and his party out of power!

Society Owes Rehtaeh Parsons but ...

Society owes Rehtaeh Parsons but ... it is too late. :(

It is hard to write this. I have read several stories about Rehtaeh Parsons, and heard them on TV, about her suicide and subsequent death. Her father wrote a blog post that I had to read several times before I was able to finish it. It just breaks my heart to see what she went through. What her family went through. The last lines of his post have been resonating in my head since I read them.

"My daughter wasn’t bullied to death, she was disappointed to death. Disappointed in people she thought she could trust, her school, and the police.

She was my daughter, but she was your daughter too.

For the love of God do something."

As a society we all failed her.  :(

How in the hell can she have gone what she did and no one be charged? The fucking pieces of shit circulated  a picture they took of her when raping her and NOTHING was done. All the hell she was put through and nothing was done.

Monsters at her school tormented her. Sent her texts asking for sex or calling her a slut. Sharing the rape picture. And nothing was done.

And where the hell are the parents of the rapists and the monsters? These pieces of shit deliberately got a young girl drunk. Raped her. Took pictures. And circulated them. And got away with it. Monsters (I refuse to call them students or kids they are monsters) tormented her. And got away with it. You think these damaged pieces of garbage won't cause more trouble for others in the future? They already learned that they could get away with it.

For two years she endured the hell until she couldn't take it any more. The "Justice" System failed her. The school system failed her. Society failed her.

Unfortunately, if things stay true to form, people will get all worked up about this and demand action then forget about it. Most people tend to have a short attention span for things. They will be in an uproar. Then calm down. Then forget about it until the next heinous act happens. Then they will be surprised it happened. (There are a lot of similarities with Amanda Todd being driven to suicide in B.C.)

Hopefully I will be proven wrong and we, as a society, will do something.

RBC: The Tardery Continues.

The CBC interviewed the head of RBC, Gord Nixon, about the current scandal. He said;

"Firstly, RBC has not and does not hire any temporary foreign workers."

As the talking head on CBC pointed out "technically" he is right. They hired a firm, iGATE Corporation, that hired the foreign workers, and brought them to Canada. Foreign workers that are being trained to take over the jobs of Canadians. So yes, technically, Mr. Nixon is right. RBC did not directly hire these workers. Technically. Gotta love how people try to hide behind technicalities.

At a time banks continue to make record profits they claim they have to take cost saving measures, like outsourcing to other countries. Mr. Nixon got a raise last year. He went from making $10.1 MILLION dollars a year to $12.6 MILLION dollars a year. RBC's profit went from $4.85 BILLION in 2011 to $7.54 BILLION dollars in 2012. Yet they have to outsource these 45 IT jobs out of the country to save money. What a fucking joke.

Is it any wonder why people think bankers are just a bunch of thieves?

Royal Bank of Canada screws Canadians over.

After reading this article on CBC I am glad I chose to dump the Royal Bank of Canada as my bank of choice last year.

It definitely looks like RBC has broken the rules on using foreign workers. Will the government do anything about it? Considering the tone the Conservatives take towards immigration you would think so. I doubt it though. As Bill Maher said

"If you have a gun you can rob a bank but if you have a bank you can rob everyone."

Odds are RBC will get away with this. Please prove me wrong Harper Government.

What the ... fearmongering?!??

I wrote this Thursday, February 7th 2013. As the media was scaring the shit out of people over the impending doom of a snowstorm. I am late in posting it.

*****

We are supposed to get a Winter storm starting tomorrow night. To listen to the media it is the apocalypse coming. They keep reminding people of how bad White Juan was when it hit in 2004.

White Juan was a devastating winter storm. In Halifax, 95.5 cm of snow fell in one day. Winds gusted from 60-80 KPH, with some bursts recorded at 120 KPH. A weather station in Halifax recorded 2 10-second gusts of 147 KPH. With the snow that came down the next day the total snowfall in 48 hours was around 120 cm with some drifts higher than 2.5 metres.  It took a long time for the Province to recover from that.

Now we look at the present. Last Monday Halifax got about 10 cm of snow. Schools were cancelled. Doom and gloom was spread by the media. For 10 fucking cm of snow! I drove to work when the "storm " was at its worst ... and had little trouble. By the time I went home the roads were pretty much cleared up. Unless you were a fucking idiot and drove too fast for the conditions, and we have a LOT of those here, you shouldn't have had any trouble.

The Saturday before we had 10-15 cm. Once again, it wasn't that bad if you didn't drive like a moron. By the time I was driving home it had turned to rain. Within an hour the roads were BARE. Yet when the weather forecasters talk about that period of time they refer to storms. Massive storms. Weather bombs. On Wednesday they were talking about how we were still digging out. Yes, some areas, like Newfoundland, got a LOT more snow than we did. THEY were digging out in areas. Halifax? Hell no.

Now we are getting dire predictions of White Juan like proportions from some media outlets. What are we supposed to get? 20-35 cm of snow starting late Friday night with most of it hitting Saturday. So, lets call that a 36 hour period of time. The wind will gust from 30-45 KPH overnight and may gust up to 60 KPH Saturday. If you listen to the weather forecasters you should prepare for Snowmageddon. Seriously, this is how the fucktards are building this up.

White Juan                                                                                 Friday/Saturday

95.5 CM in 24 hours 120 CM in 48 hours                                20-35 CM of snow in 26 hours
main winds 60-80 KPH                                                           main winds 30-45 KPH

Yeah, it REALLY sounds like another White Juan. (Can you feel the sarcasm?) It sounds like what we would call in the 90's, before the pussification of Canada, a bad winter storm. Some form of Snowmageddon? Fuck off.

Now the media gets their basic weather information from Environment Canada. Then they put their spin on it whether for current weather or predicting future weather. Here is what Environment Canada has to say while the media meteorologists are predicting total doom and gloom.

Halifax Metro and Halifax County West
3:33 PM AST Thursday 07 February 2013

Winter storm watch for Halifax Metro and Halifax County West issued

Strong winds, snow and blowing snow beginning late Friday night and intensifying on Saturday.

This is an alert to the potential development of dangerous winter weather conditions in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..listen for updated statements.

A low pressure system will intensify as it passes near Cape Hatteras on Friday before tracking south of Nova Scotia Saturday night.

This system will give snow at times heavy, strong northeast winds and blowing snow to Nova Scotia Friday night and Saturday. These conditions will persist Saturday night and into Sunday morning for Cape Breton and Eastern Nova Scotia. While it is too early to give an accurate estimate of snowfall potential, some guidance is indicating that amounts in excess of 30 centimetres are possible for parts of Nova Scotia. Also there may be periods of ice pellets or freezing rain along the Atlantic coast starting Saturday and extending into Sunday over eastern regioins.

Strong northeasterlies and northerlies over the Gulf of St. Lawrence may also give higher than normal water levels late Saturday and into Sunday, and will push pack ice into north to northeast facing shorelines.

In other words, it could be a bad storm but it is too early to say for sure. Be prepared. I understand that the media panders to fear for ratings but this fear mongering is ridiculous.

****

As I wrote this, in the aftermath of the ... winter storm we got the ...  fact the media does nothing but fear monger remains strong. Or is stronger. I heard words like White Juan, Snowmageddon, and Weather Bomb bandied about by various media outlets. It was all a lot of BS. What we got hit by was what we would have called back in the 90's a snow storm. Nothing more. Nothing less. It was not the next White Juan. It was not some cataclysmic event. It was a god damn winter storm. That is all.

Canadians have become pussified to winter. The media helps this happen.

Beer Me!

The subject of beer came up at work yesterday. It was slow and three of us were standing around talking. One co-worker, G, brought up the subject. She said she would like to go back to Mexico, her native land, and open a bar. She wondered what our favourite Canadian beer was. K smirked and looked at me.

I hemmed and hawed a bit. Then I said "I don't really like Canadian beer. They are kind of boring." I prefer drinking European beers. Usually Irish, German, Czech, and Belgian. My beer of choice is Harp. I find most Canadian beers don't have much flavour when compared to the European ones. (I am talking about mainstream beers not the micro brewery stuff.) While it is better than the swill that comes out of the U.S. (mainstream companies) it isn't THAT good. Given a choice I will drink European beers.

Then I said, oh and Sol and Corona. (I should also give honourable mention to some Philippino beers like Negra Modela.) Those are good beers too. K started laughing. He knew that I would say that. We have had similar conversations in the past. He likes to brew his own beers and is fussier than me.

G NEVER expected us to praise a Mexican beer. She figured we would blindly push Canadian beers. It was an interesting conversation.

As I write this I am drinking some Harp. :)

A Message for the CBC

CBC, we need to talk. Your reporting can be maddening at times. I can understand when news organizations from other countries screw up talking about Canada but you have no excuse.

Case in point, your story today about how gas prices jumped up overnight all across Canada. If Canada consisted of Ontario and Quebec you would be right. Luckily, or rather unfortunately for you, there is a lot more to Canada. Gas prices went up in Nova Scotia LAST FRIDAY. They went up in New Brunswick LAST THURSDAY. Not last night.

It does seem at times like you think the Eastern part of Canada ends at Quebec. Especially when your weather reports talk about the weather in the East and then proceed to yammer on about Ontario. Last I heard Ontario is in the central part of Canada. Probably part of the reason why you think the country revolves around Ontario.

Oh and saying you were talking about the Eastern half of Canada doesn't cut the mustard when you only talk about Ontario and Quebec.

CBC I do prefer your reporting over other stations but when you ignore the actual Eastern part of Canada it makes your reporting seem shoddy. It makes you seem somewhat like The Korea Times. What is next? Reports on E.T. graveyards in Nunavut? Of course not. It would have to be in Ontario if you were reporting on it.

Happy Canada Day

It has been a good Canada Day Weekend. I didn't go see the fireworks Friday night though. Saw the ones last year and, well, they just don't compare to the Lunar New Year fireworks I saw and participated in when I was in Qingdao.

Nice BBQ at my brothers yesterday. Chicken, sausage, grilled veggies, salads. Then rum, cigars, and a fire after supper. Good times.

P.E.T. on Nationalism

... nationalism was logically untenable since every group that considered itself a "nation" contained even smaller ethnic minorities that could themselves claim independence. If the nationalist trend were followed to its logical conclusion, human societies would become hopelessly fragmented . The solution lay in broader, not narrower, definitions of community.

- from Trudeau and Our Times, page 82-83

I started reading the book this week and that comment stayed with me. It reminded me of the debate over Quebec possibly separating from Canada. The Separatists tried to take the view that Canada is divisible but Quebec isn't. All of Quebec would be forced to leave Canada even though large parts of it wouldn't want to. They wanted the right to leave Canada but were unwilling to accord the same right to those who didn't want a part of their new Quebec.

Disgusting.

It is disgusting that a bunch of idiots spoiled the end of the Stanley Cup Playoffs by rioting. They give all Canadians, not just those in Vancouver, a black eye. In some ways we should be grateful that Mr. Weiner decided to resign from Congress today as it took a lot of the US focus off of the riots in Vancouver and onto ... Weiner.

There have been some nice things to see come out of the riots. The way people are coming together to help clean up the mess. The way people are posting their pictures and videos of the rioters so they can be caught and punished. Hopefully they can id and prosecute all of the idiots.

Another one bites the dust.

It is official, I officially missed out on yet another job because of the length of time it takes to get the Criminal Background Check with fingerprints done. This one with a government department that supposedly has their own "security office" that can expedite the check. Or so I was told over a month ago when the HR person said they could do it in at least 2 weeks. I don't know of many employers who want to wait 4 months to fill a position they need filled in a few weeks to a month. None I have looked for work from.

Now don't get me wrong, I think the check is a good idea. It is how it is being done that is wrong. There is just no reason I can think of in this day and age that it should take four bloody months for my fingerprints to be compared with those of an offender that shares my birthday. A couple of weeks I could understand but four months? That is insane.

The Harper Government set up the new rules without making sure a check could be done in a timely fashion. So basically if you have the same gender and birthday of someone on a criminal offender list you have to prove your innocence. You have to PAY to prove your innocence! So much for innocent until proven guilty, or the police proving your guilt or innocence. You have to pay to prove it. So much for the justice system in Canada.

It is kind of funny in a sick twisted way. Innocent people are screwed out of work because of these new rules yet Harper has convicted criminals working for him. Convicted criminals like Bruce Carson who actually got clearance to work in the Prime Minister's Office.

So, do I waste my time trying to find a job in the field I want when this check will leave me screwed over every time? Or do I say a hearty Fuck You to Canada and go elsewhere to find work? The way I feel right now a hearty FU is building up.

PM Harper

After reading Harper's comments about the disaster in Japan yesterday I can't think of non-profane words to describe him. The fucking asshole actually tried using the disaster in Japan to say there should not be an election.

I always knew he was an arrogant piece of shit. Just look at how some government departments have changed their letter head from "The Government of Canada" to "The Harper Government". But to actually try and tie the disaster to not having an election. What an opportunistic arrogant fucktard.

Access to medical care in Nova Scotia

The other day my mother, 78, slipped and fell. She was helping a friend, who had fallen and broken her foot a week ago, get out of the car after taking her shopping. She turned and caught her foot on the curb and took a tumble landing hard on the right side of her head/face.

She received a lot of help. Some workmen helped her up and put her in a wheelchair. A woman living in the condo is a retired nurse and came to help. Mom was cut above her eye and blood was gushing out like a wildcat oil well. The condo superintendent called 911 and then called me. I got there after the EMT's arrived. They took great care of mom and said she should go to the hospital and get checked out. They were worried about a concussion more than anything else. Her face around the eye and cheek was already bruised and swollen. Since I was there, and an ambulance ride costs $500-600, I drove mom to the Dartmouth General Hospital.

We got there around 11:300 AM and the Emergency Room was packed. Some of the people ahead of mom at triage had injuries such as a bleeding nose that needed to be cauterized, a sprained ankle, a migraine, and other assorted injuries. Mom had a head injury with ;possible concussion. We left the hospital around 6:10 PM without having seen a doctor.

Everyone who was there before we arrived was in AND out of the ER. Lots of people who came in after us were in and out. Mom was still waiting.

I don't want to knock the staff that works at the hospital as I know they do their best with what they have. But if mom's injuries were so insignificant that she was on the bottom of the totem pole, someone with a bleeding nose that was packed and not bleeding got in hours before we left, then why didn't they tell her that and suggest she see her family doctor the next day, or the duty doctor that day? A few hours after no signs of concussion showed they could have suggested that. It boggles my mind that a nose bleed and a migraine were given priority over a 78 year old woman who fell and was possibly concussed.

Why was the wait so long at the hospital? Well, people go there to have things treated that could just as easily be seen by a family doctor or a duty doctor at a clinic. A migraine. A cold. A sprain. One woman came in to get IV antibiotics, at her family doctors request, for an infection. These are all things that should and could be dealt with at a clinic or doctor's office. Yet people go to the ER and clog it up.

One of the things I loved about Korea was the care you could get IN a doctor's office or clinic. Needed a blood test? They drew the blood AT the doctor's office. You didn't have to go to a special clinic that is only open a couple of days a week or the hospital. You needed minor stitches? Clinic. Needed an x-ray? Any doctor's office I was at in Korea had an x-ray machine. Need IV antibiotics? Doctor's office. You didn't have to go to the ER, let alone the hospital, for minor things. Add to that there are enough doctors in Korea that you can walk in without an appointment and reasonably expect to see the doctor in less than an hour. The access to health care in South Korea makes Canada's access seem ... third world.

Then you have another problem making things worse at the ER. No beds in the hospital. A lot of patients who SHOULD be admitted to the hospital have to wait in the ER for days for a bed to become available. The mother of a friend had a mini-stroke last December, at the time they thought it was a full stroke. She spent THREE days in a small room in the ER waiting for a bed to become available in the hospital. When my mother had congestive heart failure 3 years ago she spent over 12 hours in a bed in the ER waiting for a bed to become available in the hospital. That is an insane situation.

A lot of the hospital beds are being taken up by people waiting for beds to open in long term senior care facilities. Twice while we were waiting in the ER a "Code: Census" was announced. Another person waiting went up and asked a nurse what that meant and was told it meant there are NO beds left in the ER and they can't admit anyone else until one opens up. It was over an hour before they took another patient into the ER to see a doctor.

In Nova Scotia there is a shortage of long term care facilities for the elderly, hospital beds, doctors, and nurses. Which makes what the Provincial Government wants to do now obscene. They want to take $47 Million of Federal money slated for infrastructure and use it to put towards having a new convention center built in Halifax. THAT is pretty fucked up.

We currently have a convention centre in Halifax that is NOT being fully utilized, the World Trade and Convention Centre. Also there is the Summit Place, a convention centre that was built to host a G7 meetings in the 1995. Why in the blue hell do we need another centre? One built with government money? If a new centre was REALLY viable the private sector would be ready to build it without government money.

The $47 Million dollars that the Dexter government wants from the Federal government was slated for infrastructure investment, mainly repairing and upgrading the roads in Nova Scotia as well as recreation centers around the province. I could see them wanting to take it away from roads for another infrastructure area, let's say long term care facilities for the elderly or more hospital facilities and staff, but a convention centre that we DON'T need?

I thought things were supposed to be different under an NDP government? The Dippers are more worried about "the people" than business. I guess that was just a lot of bull shit used to get themselves elected. Like any other party. Based on the expense scandals, donation scandals, and bullshit like this convention centre and self congratulatory spending one would think it was the old Buchanan government in power and not the Dippers.

If you HAVE to take $47 Million in Federal infrastructure funds away from from roads you should be putting it in health care and not a white elephant Mr. Dexter.

The more things change ...

... the more they stay the same.

Two Canadian fighter jets from Cold Lake, Alberta, had to intercept Russian TU-95 bombers that were close to infringing on Canadian air space. Are we back in the 70's?

Backyard

One of my brothers has the GREATEST backyard I have ever been in. Mostly in part due to his wife, my sister-in-law, but don't tell him that. She is fantastic. My brother had their backyard leveled and she took care of setting it up and decorating.

I was lucky enough to house sit for them and got to spend a few days enjoying their backyard. Mom gave them some awesome solar powered lights They really enhanced their yard at night.

My ... our ... backyard needs a lot of work. A lot. I have done some. Jill, my sister-in-law helped me out a bit today. She brought some hastas (sp?) and helped transplant them. I got some solar powered lights. The yard is starting to look good. And at night with the lights on ... damn. Nice.

If I stay home I will be doing a lot of work in the back yard. If I don't I still will because I want it there when I come back. :)

After a hot sunny day there is nothing quite like relaxing in your back yard with a cool drink. Often accompanied by a cigar.
