What the ... Job Hater?!?!?

HR at my workplace started a new policy January 1st related to injury and accommodations. When you hand in a Dr.'s note for missed time, or to get accommodations, they want to know the diagnosis not just the treatment.

This is causing a shit storm among some employees, recently injured ones (not injured in the workplace). They feel their right to Doctor Patient confidentiality is being infringed on. It is none of works business.

It has also led to a spate of anti-work comments. You know the typical ones. I hate this place. They treat us like shit. They don't care about us. Wah wah wah! Some of them remind me of Glimmer from my last job.

What makes it funny is how many people on one hand complain about people scamming the company about an injury to get accommodations and on the other can't believe the company would want the diagnosis of what is wrong with you as well as the recovery recommendation.

It reminds me of another co-worker from the last job. Bat, because she was bat shit crazy, "hurt" herself. She tripped over a rope between 2 stanchions, caught herself, and finished her shift without complaining. She never fell to the floor. It was more of a little jerking motion like catching yourself on a patch of ice. The next day she called out of work sick. And teh next. On day 3 she went to HR with a Dr. note putting her on medical leave. She managed to get a Doctor to say she had a whiplash concussion and couldn't work. The last job had both short and long term disability unlike my current one. Bat's mom is a nurse and managed to get a Doctor to sign off on this diagnosis. Bat forgot that a few co-workers live in teh same area as her. See her running around, literally at times, every week. Yet she couldn't work because of her whiplash concussion. It never stopped her from partying. But she couldn't work. Finally, after a couple of months, HR decided to call shenanigans and have her see a doctor of their choosing for a diagnosis. Bat quit that day.

There are a lot of people at the new job on accommodations that seem very suspect. One guy can't perform several duties because of his shoulder. Yet that doesn't stop him from hunting, and that is the shoulder his rifle slams into. Nor does it stop him spending his days off speeding around on an ATV or skidoo. But he has to be accommodated.

Personally, I do think HR is wrong to ask for the diagnosis. They should have a doctor they send people to for a second opinion. A lot of these scammers would be caught if they did.

If people really hate the workplace as much as they say then they need to find another job and quit!

I can be a dick.

It is easy to be a dick. I can be one. You can be one. Sometimes all it takes is the right mixture of bullshit.

I am at a new job now. When I was a Relief Supervisor at my old one I had the opportunity to not be a dick or to be one. I chose to be a dick. And I say that with no compunction. I CHOSE to be a dick.

We had a fucking skewed chain of command at my old job. 4 managers, including the overall head of Security, 2 supervisors, and 1 relief supervisor, me. I have NEVER worked at a place that had managers out numbering supervisors until that job. Hell, I want to say ,not to toot my own horn but fuck I am tooting it, when I quit they had to hire TWO RELIEF SUPERVISORS to do the job that I did.  Yet the 2nd in charge couldn't understand when I told him the job was burning me out. But I digress.

So, I was waiting for the call for my new job when, let's call him Richard, said something really strange.

Richard "Do you and Glenn (The fictitious name I give to the then head of our department.) have some kind of arrangement?"

Me "What?!?!?!?"

Dick: "Well you haven't talked about your new job or starting it so I was wondering if you and Glenn came to some sort of arrangement and he promised you a full supervisor job when I get let go."

This was SO fucking out of left field that I didn't know how to respond at first. So I went with the truth, which is usually the best option.

"No, DICK, I just haven't heard anything about when I start the new job. I have the new job I just don't know when training starts. Which is why I had nothing to say about it. There is nothing to say."

Richard "Oh. I see."

He had been acting like a real wanker lately and annoyed  everyone. So I took the opportunity to be a dick: "So, why bring this up? Worried about being let go?"

Richard "Ummm."

Me "You should be. When is your 20th anniversary with the company?"

Richard "May 15th."

Me "You will be let go before then. So stop worrying about it. You want the package that comes with being let go any way."

I was right. He was let go a few days before his 20th anniversary of starting work with the company. I hadn't planned on being a dick but he was just so fucking annoying that I couldn't help myself.

The company we worked for had a long line of people they fired/let go right after their 20th anniversary with them. One poor schlub had his 20th anniversary party on a Wednesday night and on the Thursday he showed up for work to be told he had no job any more.

So, I was a dick but god damn I was also right.

Motormouth 2

Motormouth ... damn ... he is the kind of fucktard you could write a whole blog about. In some ways he reminds of shit Koreans say. You just can't make the shit up. Yet it is hard to believe.

One day he was being himself. Which meant he never stopped talking as soon as he started his shift. Another  co-worker, lets call him Sarge, had a headache to start. MM was making it worse. At one one point Sarge asked him to please be quiet for just 5 minutes. Sarge was extremely polite. MM blew up. "I can fucking talk as much as I want to." Shit in that vein.

Later, MM was going on about how no one at work would hang out with him. Little wonder considering what he is like. Then he started in on Sarge. "You never hang with me homey." Sarge looked at him and said "I am twice your age. Why would I hang out with you?"

MM went on "You could hang out with me!" Sarge reiterated what he said  more vehemently. "I am twice your fucking age. Why the hell would I hang out with you? I have nieces and nephews your age and I don't hang out with them. I don't even like you. Why the fuck would I hang out with you?!?!?"

Motormouth just used that to go on a long rant. He continued on the vein of no one (co-workers) would hang out with him. Then he went off on a tangent about how his friends would rather be with their girlfriends than hang out with him.

(Sidebar: His friends introduced their girlfriends to him. The GF's couldn't stand him. Most people can't. Ergo they don't want to be around him. Ergo the friends want to be with their GF and don't hang out with him much any more.)

Motormouth ranted on about how he would rather spend time with his bros than hoes. "I want to spend time with guys! Women can fuck off. Just give me time with my bros."

Sarge had enough after 15 minutes of this. He looked MM in the eye with a smile and said "Motormouth, just turn gay. That is all you have to do. Then you can spend all your time with guys."

That sent Motormouth over the edge. He fucking lost it. "I'm not gay! I just prefer spending my time with guys! I prefer guys." It was hard not to break out laughing. He just didn't get that what he was saying contradicted what he wanted to say. That what he was saying was pretty fucking stupid. That he is an annoying git.

How Sarge kept a straight face and didn't piss himself laughing when he said that I don't know. I wanted to.

MM started having a bit of a breakdown after that. Making more mistakes than usual. Having temper tantrums like a kindergarten kid would have when he fucked up. Yet he is supposed to be an adult. He just isn't firing on all cylinders.

Motormouth

There is a guy at work we call Motormouth. Ok, that is the nicest, non-profane name we use for him. I know I talk a lot but this guy makes me look mute. It wouldn't be so bad except he talks shit most of the time. He is worse than a gobshite.

My first introduction to him  had me shaking my head. He prattled on non-stop about ... well ... anything and everything. The guy can go from 0-dolphin in 2 seconds. Or less.

The deaf guys actually complain that he talks to much! When deaf people tell you that you need to shut up you should realize you have a problem.

Add to that he just doesn't seem to know what common courtesy is. He will interrupt people at the drop of a hat. Insinuate himself into conversations that have nothing to do with him, and he knows nothing about.

Most people at work say that MM has no filter. I don't think that is the problem. He is just a fucktard. Maybe even special needs. Unfortunately, his uncle is an Assistant General Manager so he gets away with being a fucktard.

Of course, what will follow are some stories of Motormouth. :)

Graveyard Shifts

I have been picking up a lot of extra shifts at work lately. Which drastically cuts blogging time. Mind you it also cuts the inclination to be on the computer much. Especially the way the weather has been lately.

Tonight I start the graveyard shift for a few days. I tried staying up last night and failed. I had pulled a long day shift and was just too tired to stay up. I tried sleeping during the afternoon but even a long walk couldn't tire me out enough.

So now I find myself a few hours away from my shift starting and a long night ahead of me with little sleep to prepare me. Gonna have to try and find some hints for getting the body ready for a shift change before it happens again.

What's new?

I started a new job last week. Training actually started the week before. Unfortunately, my employer doesn't want us talking about them on any sort of Social Networking site. I understand why, and agree to it. Which means work won't be providing me with anything to write about and holy shit the stories I could write.

It is only part time for now but with the chance of full time hours. The work is pretty interesting and there is room for advancement. So, as long as I am getting good hours, I can see staying there for quite a while.

This is going to affect my online time, which may not be a bad thing. My shifts can be all over the place. Work has people there 24 hours a day. So if I don't respond to you quickly or post your comment don't take it personally.
